Academic Mentoring

Academic Conferences

Parent Teacher interviews traditionally take the form of a conversation about a student and their academic progress, without the student present.

The College hosts Academic Conferencing which involves the teacher, parents AND the student.  In fact, students are the key facilitators of these conversations and are challenged to lead these conferences about their own progress, achievements and areas for improvement.

This process is designed to encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning, and develop an awareness of both their academic approach to learning, as well as their emotional engagement in learning.

In a supportive environment, with their parents and teachers, the students will then reflect on their learning journey, identifying the study techniques and attitudes that help to contribute to academic development, but also to identify and acknowledge current practices and attitudes that are not allowing students to achieve their full potential. This approach is underpinned by the work of Dr Andrew Martin from the University of Sydney, who has studied student motivation and engagement and the impact these have on student achievement.

For those remotely-based parents who cannot attend the academic conferences, skype interviews are arranged on request.

Subject Information Evenings

Our Subject Information Evening are held in Term 2 and are an ideal way for students in Years 8 and 10, along with their parents, to explore subject offerings and talk to teachers in an informal setting. We believe it is vital that parents/carers take an active role in the process of subject selection. Teachers, Heads of Faculty and Heads of House are all available for parents to talk to during this process.

Academic Mentoring

Our students' academic progress is monitored throughout their years at the College, led by our Dean of Performance, Planning and Analytics.
