An Education Designed for Girls

Instrumental Music

Music is an integral part of cultural life at St Patrick’s College and all students participate in music-making through singing together at masses, liturgies and assemblies. The college offers a wide range of music and ensemble programs to suit students' interests.

LESSONS:

Tutors visit the college up to twice a week.  Students receive 12 guaranteed lessons per semester. Additional lessons are at the discretion of the tutor and are largely dependent on compulsory school events (eg. Exams, school celebrations or masses), student free days or public holidays.

Students receive one 30 minute lesson each week on a rotational basis.  Lessons before or after school are available at the teacher’s discretion (with senior students given preference) where possible to avoid loss of class time.

Instruments currently offered are:

Piano

Strings (cello, violin, viola)

Woodwind (flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone)

Brass (trumpet, cornett, trombone)

Guitar and bass guitar

Percussion

Voice

TUITION FEES 2020:

Group (2 students)   $384 per Semester

Individual tuition       $560 per Semester

Every effort will be made to accommodate group lesson requests, however, group lessons are only available if there are sufficient numbers.

Some instruments are available to rent through the school but these are limited. Please indicate on the enrolment form if you require a hired instrument and staff can assist you as needed.

ATTENDANCE:

It is the student’s responsibility to attend lessons on time and with the necessary equipment.

If a student is unable to attend a lesson, written notification is required the week preceding the lesson (for planned absences), or through phoning the school and asking tutors to be informed (in the case of illness). In some instances, make up lessons may be possible, however, lessons missed without notice will not be made up by tutors.

PROGRESS REPORTS:

Students have many opportunities to perform with their instrument, including music evenings at the college, annual celebrations, The Townsville Eisteddfod, school functions and community functions. Students will receive a report of their individual progress through the academic report or from their music tutor. If you have any questions about the program, please contact the Music Co-ordinator at Music@stpatscollege.qld.edu.au.
