Academic Conferences

We strongly believe that education is a partnership between the student, parents/guardians and the College.
ACADEMIC CONFERENCES

Unlike traditional Parent/Teacher interviews, our Academic Conferences involve parents/guardians and the student. Students are the key facilitators of these conversations and are challenged to lead each conference.

This process is designed to encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning. During the Academic Conference, students reflect on their progress, achievement and areas for improvement. Students are encouraged to develop an awareness of both their academic approach to learning as well as their emotional engagement in learning. Completing the Academic Conference booklet will support students in their role as facilitator.

Academic Conferences allow students to:

  • Reflect on their learning journey.
  • Identify study techniques and attitudes contribute to academic development.
  • Identify and acknowledge current practices and attitudes that impede success.

This approach is underpinned by the work of Dr Andrew Martin from the University of Sydney, who has studied student motivation and engagement and the impact these have on student achievement.

For those parents/guardians who do not live locally and cannot attend academic conferences, Skype, Zoom or phone interviews can be arranged on request.

Academic Conference booklets are available below.

SUBJECT INFORMATION EVENINGS

Our Subject Information Evenings are held in Term 2 and are an ideal way for students in Years 7, 8 and 10 to explore subject offerings and talk to teachers in an informal setting. We believe it is vital that parents/guardians take an active role in the process of subject selection. Teachers, Heads of House and Heads of Faculty are all available for parents/guardians to talk to during this process.

ACADEMIC MENTORING

Our students’ academic progress is monitored throughout their years at the College. This progress is led by our Dean of Academic Operations.

A Ministry in Mercy Partners

Acknowledgement of Country: We give thanks and respectfully acknowledge the Wulgurukaba people, the Traditional Custodians of this beautiful country whose land our College shares. We recognise their ongoing deep spiritual connection to this Country, and the care they gave for thousands of years. We also acknowledge the Bindal people as the neighbouring Custodians of their Country. We pay our respects to the Elders, past, present and emerging and extend that respect to other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples here today.
