An Education Designed for Girls

#ScienceWeek Spotlights STEM & "The Super Particle"

During National Science Week 2019 – the College will host a range of events and activities headlined by the popular #STEM Like A Pat's Girl Conference and a “Women in Physics” Lecture.

The #STEM Like A Pat's Girl Conference is a day devoted to empowering and engaging girls aged 10 - 15 in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). It is a sold-out event and will be held on Saturday, 10 August.

The first time, the College is hosting a “Women in Physics” Lecture presented by Dr Helen Maynard-Casely. Her presentation "How Neutrons Will Save the World," will be held on campus on Friday, 16 August from 1.30 - 2.30 pm. Spaces are still available, and current and aspiring Physics students in Years 10, 11 and 12 and their teachers from all Townsville schools are warmly invited to attend.

Dr Maynard-Casely is an award-winning Instrument Scientist at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation. Her accolades are diverse and include the Parkin Prize Lecture for Science Communication (2011) and a Guinness World record for the longest glow-in-the-dark necklace!

We look forward to welcoming Dr Maynard-Casely to this free event. If you are a teacher and would like your class to participate, please contact our Dean of Innovation, Mrs Annie Van Homrigh to book your spot. E: Tel: 4753 0363
