MUSIC

Choral Program
Music is an integral part of life at the College and all students participate through singing together at masses, liturgies and
assemblies, as well as during timetabled singing sessions as part of the Choral Program. The program aims to promote student well-being, as well as enhanced levels of confidence and self-esteem. The practice of community singing embodies a team-building philosophy of coming together in a non-competitive and supportive environment, where each student’s contribution is celebrated and valued.

Vocal and Instrumental Music Program aims to provide students with a holistic, developmental and sequential music
education experience. The Vocal and Instrumental Music Program extends beyond the foundations of community singing and comprises individual tuition for voice or an instrument, as well as ensemble participation. We embrace the ideal that these
elements are studied and developed together in equilibrium to best support the learning of each student in all facets of their technical, musicianship and ensemble playing skills.

Private Tuition is offered in the following. Enrolment forms are available.

  • Voice (contemporary and musical theatre)
  • Piano, guitar, percussion, strings, (violin, viola, violoncello), woodwind (flute, clarinet, and saxophone) and brass (trumpet, trombone, euphonium and tuba)

Ensembles

  • College Choir
  • Concert Band
  • Chamber Music Ensemble
  • Taiko Drummers

Music in the Curriculum
The study of classroom music aims to develop the whole musician through a well-trained mind, ear, heart and hand.
Performance skills are sequentially developed and applied through a number of musical mediums, including reading, writing, analysing, composing and improvising. From these experiences, students gain a deep understanding of a variety of musical genres and styles. Active music listening experiences are facilitated, including the exploration of classical art music, folk music and popular music. Basic skills on a number of instruments are introduced at various stages throughout the program from Year 7 – 12. Instruments studied include voice, keyboard, percussion (including drum kit), ukulele and guitar.

Performance and workshop opportunities
Students are encouraged to participate in the range of performance and workshop opportunities available throughout the year, including lunchtime concerts, music showcases, open days, assemblies, local eisteddfods, College masses and liturgies and the annual Winter Gala. Regular workshops are run both within the College and by industry professionals from Australia and overseas. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the  annual Catholic Education Mulkadee Youth Arts Festival and the Combined Catholic Colleges annual musical production.

DRAMA

The Drama Program at St Patrick's College gives student students the opportunity to develop confidence and build self esteem by learning how to communicate and convey ideas and feelings through dramatic actions such as improvisation and character development.   The curriculum covers content that incorporates knowledge of theatre styles and drama theorists and allows practical application of this knowledge.

In addition to the Drama curriculum, students have the opportunity to participate in various extra-curricular activities including:

  • Drama workshops with leading industry professionals
  •  Drama Club
  • Competing in the Townsville Eisteddfod
  • Other performance opportunities as they become available

images and objects from abstract to traditional styles. The Elements of Art combined with the Principles of Design are the
basis for creating, making and presenting.
