Gerard Marano

St Patrick's College, Townsville
College Chaplain
Religion Faculty and Visual Arts Department

Gerard Marano is an experienced educator who has served the College community since 2016. His broader teaching career spans more than three decades across Catholic schools in Queensland, New South Wales, and the Australian Capital Territory, bringing a depth of experience across both curriculum and pastoral contexts.

At the College, Gerard has taught across the Arts and Religious Education, combining creative practice with a strong foundation in faith and ethics. He now focuses on Senior Study of Religion, supporting students as they engage thoughtfully with questions of meaning, belief, and moral responsibility, informed by both academic rigour and pastoral care.

Beyond the classroom, Gerard is actively involved in parish life as Chair of the Mission Leadership Team at St Mary of the Cross MacKillop Parish and through service with the St Vincent de Paul Society. This commitment to faith and service underpins his approach to education and his contribution to the wider College community. In recognition of this work, he was nominated for the Spirit of Catholic Teaching Award in 2025.

From 2026, Gerard has been appointed College Chaplain. In this role, he is committed to accompaniment, prayer, and pastoral care, and continues to draw on his creative background to engage students and staff in meaningful and inclusive ways. He values relationship, reflection, and service, and is proud to contribute to the faith life and learning culture of St Patrick’s College Townsville.

A Ministry in Mercy Partners

Acknowledgement of Country: We give thanks and respectfully acknowledge the Wulgurukaba people, the Traditional Custodians of this beautiful country whose land our College shares. We recognise their ongoing deep spiritual connection to this Country, and the care they gave for thousands of years. We also acknowledge the Bindal people as the neighbouring Custodians of their Country. We pay our respects to the Elders, past, present and emerging and extend that respect to other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples here today.
